Our Vision for a Great School

Educational Philosophy & Founding Principles

Our Foundation

Our school is founded on the principles of Integrity, service and respect. Our goal is to provide an environment where each child feels a sense of belonging, responsibility and contribution in which individual potential is best fostered. We aim to nurture our students' and our own development as humble, resilient, responsible and powerful individuals.

Our curriculum is focused on practical subjects that will remain useful in the future and develop the child's mind and ability now. Languages, Math, Art, Martial arts form the basis of a lifetime utility and Training in the scientific method, debate and discourse (however simple) will arm the students with an ability to discern and evaluate new content and its value. Exploration and analysis of technologies for managing mind, body and heart, largely discovered in classical texts will be a mainstay of approach.

The developments in social engineering and personalised media give us as parents great cause for concern and we feel a responsibility to arm our children with the tools thrive in the future. We strongly believe our graduates will excel amongst graduates of other schools in all environments.

Service and Belonging

At The Uluwatu Academy, each student has service positions and responsibilities that develop real world skills (Cooking, Washing) but also give the Children daily experience of the benefit of service, namely security, confidence and personal sense of belonging, through providing real value.

Learning Goals

We believe it is essential each student and their parents know what the learning goals are and why they are learning what they are learning. Nothing at TUA will be a part of curriculum if it doesn't serve the educational goals agreed upon.

Good Manners

Fundamental to the school's approach will be education in polite and courteous interaction at all times, in debate and daily life, texts. Students at TUA treat each other, the teachers and staff in a courteous and respectful manner, fostering an environment of mutual encouragement and support.

Library and Texts

All curriculum material is available in full in the school library and online and is available for parental review and evaluation and feedback on an ongoing basis. We avoid teaching in the school outside of these references and resources, we welcome discussion with parents, and democratically update these materials according to parent and faculty consultation.

Our Mission

TUA is founded by parents, and those committed themselves to a path of wisdom, through open-mindedness and the ever-expanding pursuit of truth. Inevitable mistakes require a humble and transparent approach and in doing so demonstrate to the students values in action, the consequences and benefits and the proper use of their birthright of free will. We want you to grow with us, we are all students of the same life.

Our mission is to create a supportive learning environment that embodies the principles of humility, service, love, and responsibility. We cultivate an atmosphere that encourages children to discover their sensitivities and power, interests and talents, while creating and contributing value and supporting actively the well-being of the school community.

The values embedded in our school culture reflect values of unity, service, and full knowledge and ownership of our intrinsic spiritual nature.

Our Approach

The curriculum is focused on basic and largely immutable knowledge, Math, Language, Music Arts and Martial arts. An introduction to the theoretical life sciences affords the opportunity for project based research and debate, applying the scientific method, and the productive debate. Students will for example argue both "Sides" of any given theory, they will practice the rules of respectful discourse and in the process develop self awareness and control in social and often pressured situations.

We will focus on teaching both ourselves and our students how to engage in civil and respectful discourse, how to de escalate conflicts internally and externally, and how to handle all emotional states, as well as how to stay grounded physically, mentally and spiritually in uncertainty, fear and even attack. A foundational lesson on debate would include statements such as "All humans are equal in value, we look up to no one, and down on no one, It's your responsibility to help others in your circle of influence, not fix others or the world. We don't respect opinion, but we must honour and protect another human being's right to that opinion if we expect to keep the right to our own. Opinions have little value without solid supporting evidence.
